Hallsboro Church History
Hallsboro United Methodist Church
….serving the community for over 100 years
Hallsboro United Methodist Church was first founded in 1910 from members of Hebron Methodist Episcopal Church South and Liberty Chapel Methodist Church South. James E. Thompson drew up the original plans for the church and much of the church was constructed by church members without pay.
The interior workout is original and the diagonal placement of the tongue and grove walls are a beautiful site to behold. The design of the wood over the pulpit and alter forms a pinnacle that lifts your eyes toward heaven. Beautiful stained-glass windows were installed throughout the years in stages.
The old white education building is a two-story building which still looks much like it did when it was first constructed in 1930. It was first heated with wood heaters and the chimneys still stand on each side of the building. Gas heaters were installed later and are still used to heat the building. In 1958, a new brick education building was added to accommodate the growing congregation.
The beautiful facility is a testament to the foresight, artistry, skill and hard work of those who built and maintained it for over 100 years.
Located between beautiful Lake Waccamaw and the city of Whiteville, Hallsboro has a long and history of Christian service in the town of Hallsboro and the surrounding Columbus County. We give thanks to God for all who have gone before us and we invite all to come a worship with us!
